Re: Network Space 1T hangs unattended

About the quality of a LaCie nas: when you google on 'failing LaCie nas' it gives 29000 hits. 'Failing synology nas' gives 38000 hits, Qnap also 38000, and Thecus 20500. It's not very scientific, I know, but it shows no difference in quality. You forgot to account the market share of each device. I...

Re: bittorrent on networkspace

I don't think that using the same directory (or the same partition) for transmission and sharingservices would be a problem. There will not be a sharing violation very often (they don't seize all the files at the same time). Like you found out, the transmission-daemon and the twonkey media server ma...

Re: add ssh without dissambling

Maybe it's time to make a thread with one working sollution for version 1.18 (networkspace 1) and make that thread a sticky in this subforum?

It's getting confusing...

Re: bittorrent on networkspace

Yes, I'm having this problem too lately. When i try to download big files (approximately 9 GB) with the NAS, the transmission web daemon hangs at a certain moment. In my experience, the download continues though. With cd's (approx 700 MB) it works like a charm. Someone here has told me that it has s...

Re: Networkspace 2

And I think people wanting root access are less than 1% of the users, so you would have added an expensive chip which isn't used in 99% of the boxes. After reconsideration, I think thiny fuse that's soldered on the mainboard will suffice :D Like PROM. Sort of software warranty void sticker :D I'm n...

Re: Networkspace 2

Hi mister LacieRD, What is the reason that you don't give the owner of the device root access? Okay, i understand that the unexperienced user can destroy the software of the nas and that will result in a lot extra RMA requests but why don't you implement some software warranty void (in a (epoxied?) ...

Re: Networkspace 2

I have made some changes on the twonky.ini files but every time I put the disk back in the case, it will override my changes the bugger...... So I have to do anything to prevent this process??? I'm sure that there are scripts provided by Lacie to revert any Lacie-does-not-think-this-is-good-for-you...

Re: Networkspace 2

Yes, an index of the initial system folders and files would be VERY usefull. maybe we could find a leak to install ssh without dissasembly based on this index.

Re: Network Space SSH Access

I had the same problem, try this: copy the utelnetd daemon file to the openshare folder Chmod the file to 777 with your FTP client (enable FTP in the webinterface of the NAS) insert this cronjob with the HTML file (in the minute-field): <minute> <hour> * * * /home/openshare/utelnetd & If this doesnt...

Re: NetworkSpace Dead

So does anyone know what kind of an adapter I need? Is it SATA to USB? According to the log files of the NetworkSpace, the kernel starts a driver for a SCSI to SATA adapter. So I think the drive in the NAS has a SATA interface. Dec 28 23:47:03 kernel: Intergrated Sata device found Dec 28 23:47:03 k...

Re: processes killed automatically?

I have not changed the partitions in any way, so it will be the default amount of swap space. This will be the problem indeed. If the NAS doesn't have enough RAM, the swap space is used. If the NAS doesn't have enough swap, the OOM killer comes into action  Do you know a solution to extend ...

Re: Networkspace 2

We want to make the internal NetworkSpace Operating System to start a daemon (or do another operation). Because you haven't root priviledges (thats what we are after), we have to seek a leak in the priviledgemanagement where an admin account (which we have) can give the system the task to do an oper...
