Re: How to mount Network Space 2 on Ubuntu

Fairly sure your credentials are wrong. See if you have another computer to try accessing it from. You can try specifying domain= (should be either the workgroup or the computer name) As I said I can access my MyShare without problem over my dashboard or over FTP with my credentials. So its not pos...

Re: How to mount Network Space 2 on Ubuntu

The SMB client is very very slow. I am very disappointed that Lacie neglected to add NFS support because Samba really sucks in Linux. It works ok but it's slow. I use curlftps to mount it as an ftp share so I get a faster transfer speed. It's not perfect though but it works fairly ok. Sometimes I ha...

Re: How to root the NS2 for noobs...

Do you have a guide on installing Debian to the NS2? Is it possible to test run it on a different drive first? I am very keen to do this.

That's really cool, thanks for the headsup.

If i only I could get packages for OpenVpn and a decent NZB usenet tool and i'd be really happy

Re: Possible to change hard drives?

won't it need an mbr record on the disk or does that NS have that on chip?

Re: Samba configuration

I'd already posted on this issue from before when trying to modify the box. I just gave up it with.

If you can, create a curlftps connection and you will get a full speed transfer. Only problem with this is that other functions are not supported. Like unraring remotely or rsync.

Re: Samba configuration

Is it the smb server conf or the smb client conf that's responsible for the slow transfer speeds from Ubuntu to the NS (around 4mb/s)?

I noticed reading from the NS to my Windows 7 media pc goes full tilt (10mb/s).

Re: Samba configuration

I think this was true on the NS1 but the NS2 seems to be different any there's hardly anyone on here that seems to be modding them.

I ended up creating a curlftp fuse connection from my Linux box to enable full transfer speeds from Ubuntu to the NS until I can find a way to make the Samba optimal.

Re: Samba configuration

I had this same problem.. I think the files are overwritten on boot up.

I gave up modifying the box.

If you figure it out please let me know as my Ubuntu to NS transfer on samba is very slow. It's pretty fast from the NS to the Windows 7 though.

Re: Possible to change hard drives?

Getting the hard disc out is the easy bit  The only thing I can think of is to clone the OS partitions to a new drive once you have taken it out and plugged it into another computer.

Re: starting funplug at boot

I had a friend come over and look at this. He thinks the boot process overwrites itself on startup so you can't make these changes permanently. In essence, the whole box is crippled and it's useless making changes. The NFS no kernel mode is (in my tests) totally useless. It takes longer than samba t...

Alternative distros

Would it be possible to get Ubuntu Server 10.04 running on the NS 2? If so, how do I go about it? Can I just pull out the drive and install it on my main PC with a non gui installation? Or is it better to try a Debian distro? I'd prefer Ubuntu 10.04 since I know my way around it and get simply insta...
