Re: Serial Port problems

That's really weird. I have a usb-to-serial chip bought on internet, I found it to be a Prolific PL2303 chip. No way to have a console, both with linux and windows. I had it running changing tx and rx and connecting gnd after some seconds.

@Inoxidbale I am still running version 3 of OMV, how did you do to upgrade to version 4.9?

Re: OpenMediaVault on the Home Media CE

The biggest problem with this NAS is the SoC (a PLX chip), which is not supported by the vanilla kernel, and which is also no longer supported by the manufacturer. So you are stuck with the old kernel. There has been some effort to get a new kernel running on this SoC, but it seems they've given up...

Re: OpenMediaVault on the Home Media CE

Hi mohamnag,
I have no experience in using serial port and can't give support on that, but if you have some knowledge of linux and you have an hard disk docking station you can refer to this thread: is the way I fixed up my nas.
Regards.

Suggestion for a linux based NAS distribution

Hi folks, I installed on the Iomega HMNHD the OMV distribution using seidler's instructions. It works like a charm and I am very happy with it. Recently seidler gave up with the maintenance of the distribution. So far I have no major problem, but I feel uncomfortable using a not maintained distribut...

Re: recovering iomega drive using "dd" command line?

No offence, but if you need to learn what a GUI is, your knowledge of computer is about zero: I do not see how could you manage to use dd if you are at that level. The post seidler pointed out explains how to access and recover your data and the procedure is straightforward. If you are not familiar ...

OMV Hwclock script does not work

Hi there, I have been using OMV on the HMNHD-CE for months now. At the beginning, as the hwclock was not set properly during the boot, I added a line in rc.local script and the problem was fixed. Now I experienced other problems related to the boot scripts and noticed that a hwclock script exists (t...

Re: Streaming movies from HD to Samsung TV

You could try this. Power on your tv and watch something from twonky. Now power up your computer, open a browser and go to http://192.168.1.2:9000 (you should change 192.168.1.2 with the ip address of the iomega network hd). Now browse the menu and search for the media receiver section. It should be...

Re: OpenMediaVault on the Home Media CE

So again, avoid using XFS on this OMV if you don't want to loose your files. Go with Ext3 (will be slower) if you decided to still go with this particular OMV build. Hi premudriy, I drop in the discussion because in the past I have messed around a lot with the XFS issue. If you are interested, thes...

OMV: date reset at each boot

Hi folks, I have OMV on my device. At each boot the date and time is reset. This is a little annoying because I power down the device every day and if I do not set the correct time files and logs are messed up. The device is not directly connected to the internet so I can't use the ntp option. I not...

Installing twonky is legal?

Hi folks, I installed OMV on my device and so twonky media server is gone. Twonky did an amazing work with my samsung tv, none of the other dlna servers does quite like twonky. So I want to install it and it seems that adapting this instructions it's possible to have twonky on the device. My concern...
