Re: Easy installer for FVDW firmware

That is nice, I would very much like to try your script if I find the time. Unfortunately, the script is not available anymore from the location you have indicated. $ wget -O fvdw-firmware-install.sh http://lacie.busfreaks.nl/fvdw-firmware-install.txt --2012-01-23 17:07:02-- http://lacie.busfreaks.n...

Re: How to download when computers off

Hi, The issue you are describing can not be used with a LaCie NAS at the moment. The only way you can download via a NAS for now is using torrents or if you root it, you can also download via NZB. I download on the hacked NAS from websites that require login using wget with the --cookies option. Th...

Re: add ssh without dissambling

There are several more polished guides to hacking the NetworkSpace: http://beinfamous.blogspot.com/2009/08/into-lacie-network-space-1tb-part-i.html http://doyouhateme.bizarro.org.uk/2009/08/get-root-on-lacie-network-space-without.html http://blog.hendricksen.eu/2009/07/29/get-a-root-shell-on-lacie-n...

Re: Lacie network space, other os.

It should be possible to install an other, custom, OS on the LaCie NetworkSpace. In fact, I run Debian in a chroot. Running a custom OS natively is probably a bit more difficult, but should be possible.

Re: add telnet and ssh without disassembling - problems

Oh, and to make it start during boot you have to do

Code: Select all

# ln -s /opt/etc/init.d/S40sshd /etc/rc.d/rc3.d/

Re: add telnet and ssh without disassembling - problems

Now doesn't that mess up internal features in the NAS that may or may not be expect some default password? I have had no problems like that with changing/removing the password. And what happens if I were to select my own password for root, is that advisable or better leave it as it is now, which is...

Re: add telnet and ssh without disassembling - problems

If you made it to step 11, you have terminal access. Congratulations! It is easier to install daemons through ipkg. ipkg is like apt-get, only for devices with little resources. Follow instructions for manual bootstrap here . If you use ipkg, the init scripts will be installed for you automatically....

Re: Possible to turn AFP on/off?

If you have terminal access to the NAS, you can use the edmini.sh script in /usr/bin to disable any service, or do other things with it: # service: # ./edmini.sh service enable AFP|SMB|FTP|HTTP|BJR|MDS|MTD|ALL # ./edmini.sh service disable AFP|SMB|FTP|HTTP|BJR|MDS|MTD|ALL # ./edmini.sh service get A...

Re: NS 'under attack'! Any solutions?

That looks like a very nice tutorial. Bear in mind that anything other than the myshare and openshare dirs get deleted at shutdown, unless you modify the clean up script. The code above is the first part of a script that is present on the Networkspace, you don't have to put it there yourself. Good l...

Re: ipkg kernel

Maybe it is possible to use the CLUNC U-boot netconsole (see thread elsewhere on this forum) and use it boot an alternative kernel, without making it permanent?

Let me know!

Re: NS 'under attack'! Any solutions?

Hoi gekkewiebel, After hacking the NS, that is certainly possible. You can even add more ftp users if you like. You can use the /usr/bin/edmini.sh script for that. It gives you many more options: #!/bin/bash #set -x # # Exemples: # # machine: # ./edmini.sh machine get version # ./edmini.sh machine g...

Yes, sure, it is very well possible to use rsync for backing up your files. rsync is just an advanced file copying tool.

Re: tcpwrappers installation

Hi Johan, Yeah, I get people trying to guess passwords on my ssh server every day. Scum. Probably the easiest way is to move ssh to a non-standard port. I can't do that myself because I can't use other than standard ports from my work. You might find an answer to your question by googling the error ...
