I can access via putty, however the file structure is read only.

I must be missing something obvious. Any suggestions welcomed.
No, the system files are indeed read-only. The data partition is, of course, mounted read+write.

Re: Serial Port problems

For my part I would be grateful if someone could make a picture with the PCB putting the description next to the pins and update the Wiki article with it. I fried my second adapter yesterday because I misread the textual description :(

Re: Can your help me restore original firmware?

No, that's wrong. Correct way is to just download it - the link is in the Wiki article!! Creating it with the Perl script is totally unnecessary.

Re: OpenMediaVault on the Home Media CE

Hello ptelleria , Thanks for the advice. However, I do not know how I can do that, unfortunately. Tried reverting to Iomega stock firmware to install OMV again, but I had no success --following the instructions below: Format the USB Stick as FAT (this will erase all data on it) Open the Explorer, g...

Re: Can't enable root - Home Media CE 2TB

That wiki page is a bit of a mess. Here's the only relevant part: - Go to http://<IP ADDRESS OF NAS>/diagnostics.html - Tick checkbox to enable SSH. - Upon restart, login with username 'root' and password 'soho<admin password>' (All one word. Example:'sohoabc123'. If no admin account is set- just 's...

Re: Iomega Home Media Cloud Edition New HD Format?

There's no certain way of knowing unless you connect the serial port and get some data. Sorry to not be of more help.

Re: Iomega Home Media Cloud Edition New HD Format?

Brief answer:
Error in cp command, everything after and including "mkdir ..." must not be part of it.
Bootrom.txt - why do you copy it on windows? Just download to the same directory as the imager tar.gz and copy it with "cp bootrom.txt /mnt/hmnhdce-recover/"

Re: Iomega Home Media Cloud Edition New HD Format?

"sudo su" is enough to get root access. If it wasn't you would get an error message on the dd command. Dunno why you set the root password, it's not needed because with sudo you enter your own password without needing to have a root password.

Re: Iomega Home Media Cloud Edition New HD Format?

That is fine, no need to check anything on the HD, just make sure /dev/sdb is the HD and not the USB stick. Unplug the HD, put into HMNHD-CE, prepare USB stick as described and power on the HMNHD-CE. This has worked for many people, so I think there is little room for error.

Re: Iomega Home Media Cloud Edition New HD Format?

You're not following the instructions. Do the section "complete recovery" first. Then prepare the USB stick. No need to extract anything.

If it doesn't work, post the steps you're doing exactly so that one can see where the mistake is.

Re: Iomega Home Media Cloud Edition New HD Format?

Format does not matter as it will be overwritten to match what the NAS expects. Follow the instructions exactly.

Re: Download: Running Syncthing on HMNHD-CE

Nice! One question: do you really have to repackage it for the EZ and ix2? I thought all armel packages should fit on all armel boxes? Well, at least I would adjust the maximum memory setting for EZ. I only saw that there are several targets in the SDK, one for each NAS, so unless someone can test ...

Download: Running Syncthing on HMNHD-CE

Hello all, after long quiet time, I have something new for everyone who still has their HMNHD-CE: Syncthing . It is a neat, open-source software very alike to BitTorrent Sync. And since I had the Iomega/EMC LifeLine SDK lying around on my hard disk, I thought I'd try it out, so here you have a nice ...

Re: Can your help me restore original firmware?

Why do you partition and make a filesystem on the HDD? There's nothing about that in the Wiki. The command is zcat ... dd of=/dev/sdb ... NOT sdb1.

Re: Can your help me restore original firmware?

Its all clear but dosent work yet... I should be doing something wrong, I will try again. I have a feeling you're doing something with the HDD which you shouldn't. So basically: - connect the HDD to your PC, write the 32M to it (make sure you write it to the correct drive) (I see that maybe I shoul...
