Been trying to figure out how to run a fsck on the HDD from Debian but no luck so I guess I need some expert help...

I understand that I have to unmount it first so I used...

Code:
umount -l /dev/md0

But when running "fsck -f /dev/sda" it returns...

Code:
fsck 1.41.3 (12-Oct-2008)
e2fsck 1.41.3 (12-Oct-2008)
fsck.ext2: Device or resource busy while trying to open /dev/sda
Filesystem mounted or opened exclusively by another program?

Also tried using "fsck -f /dev/sda2" but it returns...

Code:
fsck 1.41.3 (12-Oct-2008)
fsck: fsck.mdraid: not found
fsck: Error 2 while executing fsck.mdraid for /dev/sda2

Another thing I tried was "mdadm --stop /dev/md0" after umount but no go so it ended up with me removing the USB stick and booting up NSA-220+ normally and then ran a HDD scan from within the admin GUI but I would like to understand what I'm doing wrong so any help appreciated...

You should run fsck on /dev/md0 (after unmounting it)
