Good evening!

I recently aquired my office's old EdminiV2, thanks to it's hard drive suddenly sounding like a washing machine. Or some other, much better simile.

After purchasing a new hard drive, I set about installing a new OS. And now I'm stuck.

After reading most of the threads on this forum (special thanks to rosbif and aribaud), I've got as far as installing the patched u-boot. However, my Linux skillz do not quite pay the billz and I don't really understand the Kernel Compilation process (the correct machine was never listed in the system type when running "make menuconfig". That and I didn't really know what I was doing). So, here I am, asking if anybody has a pre-complied uImage that I may pinch and install on my EdMiniV2?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

John.

As a side note, am I right in suspecting that anybody using the u-boot patch will now have aribaud's MAC address and serial?

Did you see this? There is a uImage in sda6.bz2.

Thanks Mijzelf, I had seen that, is it the standard Kernel that Lacie released?

I'd like to use the newer Kernel, 2.6.28, as it has native support for the EdMiniV2.

I've seen posted in the Forum that someone had managed to get native Debian running. This would be ideal, as I'd like to have SSH support with using this backdoor.

Or Foonas or Angstrom.

Or am I horribly confused?

Basically, if there was a Vanilla Kernel uImage, could I then choose a distribution like one of the above?

Excuse my ignorance concerning Linux!

For anybody interested:

I eventually cross-compiled Rosbif's / arribaud's Kernel (2.6.29.1) on a Ubuntu machine, using a codesourcery tool chain. I flashed aaribaud's modified uBoot (so I could write to flash) and now use a Debian distro found on this forum. (I think the distro was intended for a router(?), but works brilliantly.

Currently running:

Apache
MySQL
SSHD
MiniDLNA
Samba

Thanks to all the hard work by Rosbif and aaribaud!
(I also learnt a load too!)
