upgrading from NAS OS2 to Nas OS3

upgrading from NAS OS2 to Nas OS3
I have searched the LaCie site to try to answer my question. A friend wants to give me his 2Big NAS, it has the newer style port arrangement on the rear and runs NAS 2.x. He thinks it's about 2 years old. Can it be easily upgraded to run NAS OS3?
