Hi all.

I also need to get my drives properly formated and with the right images.
I have a 2Big Netwok with 2 1TB drives.

We had some trouble accessing the data on the drive. Luckily I took a backup before I began experimenting.
I only realized afterwards that all the firmware resides on the disks so now it is completly dead until I can get the correct files in place again.

I feel a "Restore your drive for dummies" kind of instruction would be appropriate for me. :p

Appreciate any help.

First of all thank you very much for everything you have described.
I have a Lacie 2 Big Network2 and I do not get into the NAS network.
I managed to extract the data and save to another disk with UFSExplorer. Now I need to re-operate the NAS with their software if is possible.
I downloaded the file: GPL_2Big_Network_2-1.3.7 at Lacie site.
From what I understood from the post (my English is not as perfect as it should) would have to compile this file and install it on sda2 partition.
Could you confirm this and how should I do this process?

Thanks,

You can find Images of sda6 / sda7 / sda8 and other stuff for 2big Network here.
Images formely found on reparix.ch, but they are vanished long ago, so I've upload them on downloads.lacie.nas-central.org
- THX to the unknown!

Hi Guys,

First of all thanks for all the usefull information.

I've been trying to restore a bricked 2big nas using allt he information I gathered in this topic.
Currently I havent had much success... hopefully there is still someone active in this topic willing to help me.

I used the images downloaded from the link LacieHasser posted, are these 3 images enough? don't i need more?

does anyone know if it is needed to dd the mbr?

maybe I'll have to connect the serial port, I hate debugging without knowing what's going wrong..

Yes, you need only three image-files to rebuild it, and mbr+label.gz is neccessary, because it tells the box
Thats a new disk containing the string LaCieFirstBootLaCie starting at byte 1536 of the disk.

I've managed to run a 2big bought on ebay with fresh disks, updating it from v. 2.0.6 up to 2.2.3 using
IExplorer on a XP-machine (FF for XP/Mac or Safari doesn't work!!!! Maybe of Javascript-misfunction?):

But the box stuck after update to v. 2.2.6
Unfortunately I can't repeat this procedure a second time - did the same, but still get the blinking red button...

BTW: Does anoyone know what's inside the .signed files for the updates? Maybe the updates can be done manually by
transfering the files to sda9 and starting with the script edconfd.cgi?

i tried it several times but i have the following difficulties:
1. my disk is different organiced (the sectors of the partitions aren't equal in comparisson to "http://downloads.lacie.nas-central.org/ ... ntable.txt"
2. after i applied "http://downloads.lacie.nas-central.org/ ... r+label.gz" all partitions (except SDA1 and SDA5 are deleted

Do you have some ideas?

I will post my partitions later..., right now is it in a rebuild phase. with a half workin system :-S

Rossi185,
use

Code: Select all

fdisk /dev/sda1
to create the other partitions (type m to get help),

Code: Select all

fdisk -l /dev/sda1
shows the configuration

I connected the serial port and i get a crc error when booting the kernel.

I hope someone has working images and is willing to help me and upload them somewhere? :(

I've build a kernel from Lacie's GPL source. You can try it, if you want. Download is here. Inside the tarball is a uImage, which should be loaded in sda6, and if it works, you need to put the modules on (the raid array on) sda8. My compiler is not the same as Lacie used, so the firmware modules won't fit on this kernel.

Hi everybody,

I have several problems with my LaCie 2big Network and i need some help about it.

First I'll start telling you that one disk died a few days ago, and my LaCie was on RAID 0, so i lost all the data... (that's not the important here).

Then i bought 2 hard drives (1tb each one), and the LaCie didn't work. It just work with the disk left but with no data.

I made the BIG MISTAKE to connect the remaining disk on my computer and format the entire disk...

now i cannot make the LaCie work, i just have one disk at this time and i need to backup a lot of information...

can anyone help me with this plz?

i don't know too much about linux, but i have installed it on a pc...

plz help me!!! :(

I'd like to help you, but as you can read in this thread the available images are not suitable.

I don't know. The problem is most people come here when their NAS ceased working, so nobody is able to upload working images.
Or maybe the images *do* work, but there is something fishy in the way the NAS treats them.

If it was my NAS, I'd put Debian on it, but for many people that is useless.
