New 2x320GB disks - boot error - SOLVED

Post by s503 » Sun Jan 18, 2015 9:25 am

Hi,

I bought empty Lacie 2Big. I prepared the disks according to the instructions and almost succeeded to set it working, but there is some error when booting. I suspect the reason is I am tring to use 320GB disks. Is it possible that the nas has minimum disk size?

Code: Select all

#### Starting PatchManager using /dev/md1 and /dev/md2 ####
attempt to access beyond end of device
md1: rw=0, want=528120, limit=353152
JBD: IO error reading journal superblock
EXT3-fs: error loading journal.
mount: Mounting /dev/md1 on /var/original failed: Invalid argument
===BOOTFS: systemInitialize: Failed to mount /dev/md1
Just to mention that in the beginnig the nas was not starting at all because it was not recognising the disks. In fact the disks were not spinnig at all, due to missing 12V voltage. After some measurements I fount that there are two element that cause the problem. I wasn't able to find any information about them (the SMD code is N52Q), but they should be transistors that controll the power to the disks. For now I just removed the faulty elements and put metal wire to ensure 12V to the disks.

The first time I used CentOS, I tried again with Knoppix - again without luck :(
I wander why my disks differ in size as their firmware is the same: (625140335 x 512) vs (625142448 x 512)

Here is the full boot log:

I think one of the disks has hardware problems:
JBD: IO error reading journal superblock
EXT3-fs: error loading journal.
EXT2-fs warning (device md1): ext2_fill_super: mounting ext3 filesystem as ext2
attempt to access beyond end of device
md1: rw=0, want=524312, limit=353152
EXT2-fs error (device md1): ext2_get_inode: unable to read inode block - inode=15233, block=65538

I think I used wrong partition table..
The table from http://downloads.lacie.nas-central.org/ ... ntable.txt gave the errors.
Then I found the script in http://downloads.lacie.nas-central.org/ ... sser/2big/
I think it writes different table but uses exactly the same partition images (actually downloads them). The first start resulted in error again.. Can't find /dev/sdb5.. when try to format the swap.
Then I decided to remove the udev stop/start and voila - the script finished. I run the script for /dev/sdc and after it finished the nas booted without errors! :D
Knoppix did't like stopping udev obviously.
Thanx for the info guys, thanx for sharing all this.

EDIT 2: those instructions are for 2big network2 dont know why they are in the 2big network forum, but still working on them.

EDIT: Reading more i seem to have found my answer :

http://lacie.nas-central.org/wiki/Insta ... partitions
going to test it now.

Hello guys,

I see you found some instructions to prepare the 2big network drives i need to do the same but with 2 tb drives, i found the site someone else posted with the sizes of the partitions and stuff but do you mind telling me where u found the instructions to do so?.

thanks.
