streaming music over internet?

Post by xink22822 » Thu May 28, 2009 11:04 am

Hello,

I have lots of mp3 files on my networkspace at home.
Is it possible to listen to the mp3 files from an another location (on the internet)?
Anyone know how to do that?

Provided the connection over the net is fast enough, the Twonky media server (comes preinstalled on the Network Space) should be able to stream your music to you. If you have a router, configure it to forward connections from the internet on port 9000 to your Network Space port 9000. As soon as you have done that, you should be able to stream your music to you anywhere on the internet. Just go to http://your_public_ip:9000 in a web browser, and continue from there.

Twonky works by default, but has many options that can be configured. That requires a simple hack. Have a look at http://lacie.nas-central.org/wiki/Netwo ... diaServers to see how to access the configuration pages of Twonky on the Network Space

I have forward the port 9000 on my router to my networkspace.
When i connect to http://my_public_ip:9000 from the internet, i get a
red page with the error: "Access is restricted to MediaServer configuration!"

The same red page do i get for the first time when i browse in my lan at home to http://networkspace:9000.
I did the hack with my pc:192.168.1.6 and networkspace:192.168.1.66
Now i get access to http://networkspace:9000 , but still get the red page over the internet.

Do you know what further action do i have to take?

Sorry, the actual address you need to go to is http://<your_public_ip>:9000/webbrowse

Not having access to the config pages from outside your LAN is probably saver, btw.

thank you for your reply
strange enough i cannot access the page http://<your_public_ip>:9000/webbrowse at home.
i will try monday at work over the internet.

when i access http://networkspace:9000/webbrowse at home, i can see a browse list.
How do you stream the mp3 file to your player(like winamp)? which program do you use?
Because when i click the mp3 file, it want to download the file and not streaming.

You may need to switch on the radio on the config pages. I think Twonky broadcasts in a format understood by Winamp, like shoutcast. Have a look at the Twonky documentation.

I have now access to http://<your_public_ip>:9000/webbrowse at work, but i have another problem.
I see now 3 folders, music, photos and videos. When i move the mouse for example over the Music label, it shows in the status bar http://192.168.1.66:9000/webbrowse/O1
This is my NAS local ip adres, and not my public adress.
Can i change this local adress to the public adress somewhere? because i cannot browse the list with the local ip adress.
thanks,
Xink

I have found how to fix the local ip with browsing.
Just go to Config page - advanced setup - Network.
HTTP remote port --> 9100
Dynamic DNS --> http://your_public_ip:9100

The page is now accessed from the internet with the adress:
http://your_public_ip:9100/webbrowse
