Damaged HDD

Post by unkleboab » Sun Oct 24, 2010 12:19 pm

The Lacie 500GB NAS I've been using for the past year died after an unfortunate power surge resulting from a colleague inserting the wrong power supply into the NAS  . BAsically it received a 19V DC supply and this appears to have gone straight through the NAS board and blew a rectifier on the Samsung HD502IJ HDD controller. I have obtained an identical HDD and swapped the controller board over, but the Lacie cannot see the partitions. I'm assuming I need to tell the controller what they are somehow, preferably without touching the data on the platters as I do not have a backup of the last 2 weeks work.
The drive was left in an 'out of the box' setup with all the data being on the /Public drive.
Could anyone advise the standard settings for this HDD and how to put them back in?

In case of the Networkspace the operating system is on the harddisk. So you can't just put in a new disk. You can find partition dumps of the NS here.
