My Internet space has failed so I removed the hard drive from the case and put it into a PC and booted the PC with ubuntu

The Hard disk is ok

In ubuntu can read the disk and copy files from the hard drive from the folders named family docs, family pictures and family videos files. These folders where never password protected

However i cannot find the files that are in the folders that are called My Docs, My Videos etc.
These folders where always password protected on the drive

I can see a folder that is named with my username for the drive but it says this is protected
I think these 'My folders' and the files i want may be in this folder

Folder properties for the folder named 'myusername' are greyed out so i cannot change permissions or put in a password anywhere

Anyone know how to access this folder or find the other files on the disk with ubuntu

Tony

You'll need to find out the complete path to 'myusername'. That's probably something like '/media/SOME-HEX-CODE/myusername'. Then open a terminal and type
Code:
sudo chmod a+rx -R /media/SOME-HEX-CODE/myusername

I couldn't get that to work. Got an error.

Cannot find path a+rx

Ubuntu did not like the a+rx

So tried below, which worked

sudo chmod u=rwx,g=rwx,o=rwx /media/SOME-HEX-CODE/myusername

And then had to do that for each sub folder.

But thanks for the info as it got me in the right direction
