Did you have any packages installed in fw 4.40? That could be the problem. Those are EABI packages, and cannot run on the OABI kernel of 3.20. It's unpredictable what they will do, but they could just stall, and lock for instance the /ffp/etc/zyxel/zy-pkgs directory. This can also prevent a factory reset.

Maybe you can switch them off:
Code:
mv /usr/local/zy-pkgs/etc /usr/local/zy-pkgs/etc.old
reboot

/usr/local/zy-pkgs is a bindmount which is possibly not available in the FFP chroot. On my system the actual path is /i-data/md0/.system/zy-pkgs. I don't know about the 210, but you can try:
Code:
mv /i-data/md0/.system/zy-pkgs/etc /i-data/md0/.system/zy-pkgs/etc.old
reboot

Yes. Remove all packages, update the package list, and then you can install them again, if you want.
