Root password error after reboot

Post by prupert » Thu Mar 21, 2013 12:40 pm

Hi

Whenever I reboot my funplugged nsa210 the root password appears to have been changed to something unknown (the previous password that worked prior to reboot isn't accepted, nor is "root", "1234" or "admin").

I can fix this be enabling the telnet backdoor and logging in with the NsaRescueAngel account and changing the root password, but I was wondering if anyone might know why the changed password is lost on reboot and what it is reset to?

Does the admin password for the webinterface still work? Try to change it (and back, if you like).

The firmware actually stores 2 hashes of your password, one in '/etc/passwd' format and one in samba format. The latter is also used for the webinterface. Sometimes the hash for the shell login is out of sync. Don't know why.

Yeah, admin password works fine for the web interface and is unchanged. I'll try to change the web interface password and see if that has an impact.

Thanks for responding, if I am correct, I think a huge amount of thanks are due your way as you seem the primary support for funplug on our Zyxel NSA devices - so - THANKS!! Your efforts are much appreciated - cli access to the NSAs is awesome. Cheers to fonz as well.
