MD-254 Print Server (how-to anything)
MD-254 Print Server (how-to anything)
Hello.
I installed a print server package on MD-254 and connected a HP LJ 1018 printer on the USB port.
It should work? I see nothing except a usblp0 line in the logs.
Can anyone confirm if this configuration should work or how to set it up on NAS and on a PC to use the printer?
Thank you.
Boris
UPDATE: Sitecom is looking into this, as it appears the print server is actually not working at all. Their R&D should work on this, as it is one of the specified functionalities on the box itself. Give them a call, if you support this or even have the same need for a print server.

Re: MD-254 Print Server (how-to anything)
Hello,
Running the last firmware release on a MD-253 which seems the same firmware as for the MD-254, I also have problems using the print server. It seems unstable. Sometimes it works o.k. and sometimes the usbprintserver is missing in the explorer screen (clicking on the URL in the Toolbox>Package management screen).
I informed Sitecom about this, but did not yet get a good solution.
Has somebody working this o.k. and stable???
Thanks
Chris

Re: MD-254 Print Server (how-to anything)
I am afraid Sitecom is selling "moon acres", as it were, because their print server capability is close to non existent and I am yet to see any work they should have already put into making it work.
Re: MD-254 Print Server (how-to anything)
To this day, since around NY, Sitecom did not contact me regarding the print server patchup solution on MD-254, so this is to all the people looking to buy this thing for this feature: DON'T !!!
Re: MD-254 Print Server firmware update
On January 13th Sitecom replied on my support request that they were working on a new release of the firmware, solving amongst others the printing problems. It should take several weeks........Release date not yet known.
We have to wait.....

Re: MD-254 Print Server firmware update
Thank you for this info, it is good to know that I am not the only one with an active interest in this.
Yes, Sitecom did mention something about a new firmware, but it is always important to keep the demand for this alive with all means possible. I would think they read online forums, too.
So, Sitecom, please, produce the goods.
Perhaps it would be nice to list the printers "wishing" to be used with MD-254.
Here's mine: HP LJ1018.

That's all nice and good, it's your call.
But remember, if it's written on the box, you PAYED for it and it needs to WORK.
Otherwise, it's false advertising.

I agree, but what can I do? Bring that back, and add 100€ more for decent box?borisdoli wrote:That's all nice and good, it's your call.

Yes, the price is tempting, but even a cheap item is expensive, if features you bought it for do not work.
Well, I am building a case for our Trade Regulatory Office, in case Sitecom does not fix it soon. I've been in contact with them and they seem interested in me formally presenting the case.
Companies should not feel free or even invited to add features to the box and not to the devices in the box, counting on the fact that most people will be satisfied with most or even just some of the features actually working, regardless of the price being low or high ...

Boris,
If you need another case, you can use mine and you can contact me here...
As single end customers we can't do much.

Re: MD-254 Print Server (how-to anything)
Sadly, three months have gone by. Sitecom, would you care to comment on your mess ?
Re: MD-254 Print Server (how-to anything)
In my opinion, do not trust Sitecom to produce what they promised, in the box or afterwards ... They just suck !
Re: MD-254 Print Server (how-to anything)
There it is, proof that Sitecom has no concience or descency. No word from them for 4 months now. Up yours, Sitecom! (and be ready to hear from Trade Protection Agency)
Re: MD-254 Print Server (how-to anything)
I installed printerserver on my MD-253 with firmware 2.4.15. Immediately it worked as a charm. However, after upgrading to firmware 2.4.17 I have never succeeded in using the print server again. Putting it off and on again did not help. De-installing and re-installing did not help either.
Is there anyone who recognizes this problem and solved it?
