Hi all,
I've read most posts in this category, and searched the internet quite a lot, but haven't found an howto or a guide for installing rsync on MD-253. I have it with old firmware, can access via SSH, so I only need to place a compatible rsync executable somewhere and be able to start it.

I've read about support of optware, but the readme.txt on that site is gone. I've read that the new firmware support a plugin architecture, but noone is talking about an rsync module, so I suppose it's not there.

I'm quite experienced with Linux, a bit experienced with embedded systems, and not afraid of flashing a custom firmware.

Given that, where to start? MD-253 is okay, i just really need to be able to rsync to it.

Please help,
Simone

I was just trying to do the same tonight, but without hope.

Trying to call rsync resulted in this error:

Code:
sh: rsync: not found
rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (0 bytes received so far) [sender]
rsync error: remote command not found (code 127) at /SourceCache/rsync/rsync-42/rsync/io.c(452) [sender=2.6.9]

Trying with sftp, still no success:

Code:
sh: /usr/libexec/sftp-server: not found
Connection closed

We'd better ask the guy who made the SSH plugin, AFAIK the only "unofficial" plugin for the MD-253.
I tried to create the toolchain for the MD253, but gave up, being such a job a too dark path to follow :) in almost no spare time.

Meanwhile, I'll resort to ftp sync... I wish I never bought this faulty box.

How have you tried installing it?

I tried simply placing there an ARM compiled binary, even a statically compiled one, but it refuses to run.

I haven't tried building the full toolchain cause I have not found a readme or howto, and from experience when docs are missing ... it's going to be a big loss of time.
