A few months ago, I bought an MD-254 and got it to work fine with my MacBookPro (OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard). First connected it by Ethernet directly to my computer, then later, for a more permanent setup, by Ethernet to my Fritz!Box router, to which my Mac connects with wifi. Both connection methods worked. Set up Time Machine, copied my iTunes library, the works.

A few weeks later, the MD-254 disappeared from the network. Since then, I have not been able to connect to it, or even find it. I gave up for some time, but today I powered it up again and connected it by Ethernet to my computer, but also that way it cannot be found at all.

http://sitecomnas/ waits endlessly, http://sitecomnas.local/ gives "Firefox can't find the server at sitecomnas.local.". Running the setup from the CD gives "Can't find the Home Storage Center". In Terminal: host sitecomnas and host sitecomnas.local both give "Host sitecomnas{,.local} not found: 3(NXDOMAIN)". ping 169.254.0.253 gives request timeouts followed by "ping: sendto: No route to host".

It may be a problem on the Mac's side. But it is suspicious that connecting it via the Fritzbox also does not work anymore. I have no further problems with my computer or router.

Can anyone help?

The Ip address does not look valid to me. it should be someting like:
192.x.x.x
10.x.x.x
172.x.x.x

try to reset the nas with the reset button on the back.
If that will not work then you'll have probably the same problem which I have.

good luck!
