I’ve the two symlinks created in MyShare but I can’t open any when logged with SFTP as admin account using Notepad ++.

You need to open symlinks from the NetworkSpace web interface, not from an SFTP client. After going to the LaCie Dashboard in your web browser, in the top right corner there is a little folder with a spyglass on it (see red circle in attachment). Click this to go to the file browser and then follow the subsequent instructions above.

Oh ! Thanks!

May I ask another (noob’s) question?
Quote:
- Edit the shadow using the method above (copy the admin hash to the root account)
- ssh as root to your NS2 on port 2222.

I have this in "shadow" file:
Quote:
root:$1$$1RDUuTsVHjre9juUvuICX.:12542:0:99999:7:::
bin:*:12488:0:99999:7:::
daemon:*:12488:0:99999:7:::
sync:*:12488:0:99999:7:::
shutdown:*:12488:0:99999:7:::
halt:*:12488:0:99999:7:::
nobody:*:12488:0:99999:7:::
anonymous::12488:0:99999:7:::
messagebus:!:12488:0:99999:7:::
haldaemon:!:12488:0:99999:7:::
avahi:!:12488:0:99999:7:::
partner:$1$AhmQ/2rZ$1cYuUexBvzYmM.Zk4R/6y.:15231:0:99999:7:::
admin:$1$I/O/ATV1$I07EoYdnWhTkVW7n63BpK/:12488:0:99999:7:::

and I don’t understand exactly what to do.
In SSH configuration board (see attached) I put:
root as the user
and $1$I/O/ATV1$I07EoYdnWhTkVW7n63BpK/:12488:0:99999:7::: as the admin’s password
but the response is access denied.

I am wrong, but where please?

You should edit the 'shadow' file that the root line becomes:
Code:
root:$1$I/O/ATV1$I07EoYdnWhTkVW7n63BpK/:12542:0:99999:7:::
copy the file back, and you can login as root using your admin password.

Okey.
Got it. Thanks.

So I replaced the root hash password with the admin’s one,
saved,
reboot…
tried to log as root through SSH (on port 2222) with the admin’s pass
and… failed.

Went then to see in the shadow file if I made a typo and saw that the root hashed password didn’t change.
Tried again thrice, but, no way: on each reboot the previous hash pass comes back.

Did I miss a step somewhere?

EDIT:
Okey! Now works. (I wasn’t using the correct editor).

Now stuck elsewhere
trying to read /etc/fstab
returns:
Quote:
-sh: /etc/fstab: Permission denied

As I am root, I don’t see why.
Do you have an explanation?

SND EDIT:
After a new reboot NAS reverts to the default hash pass for Root.

Seeing the output you are trying to execute the file, not view it. To view it, execute
Code:
cat /etc/fstab
