Help - NSA221 unusable after firmware update

Post by bx168 » Mon Jan 13, 2014 12:33 am

Hi guys,
joining this board to seek help.
I got the NSA221 and was trying to update firmware using the download feature.
It went thru the download and applied the firmware. On the web page it's said to wait for restart to be completed.

It never did. It had solid light and the fan is just keep spinning. I let it stay for overnight and it still the same in the morning.

Then I power it off and then on again. Now the system green light is keep blinking rapidly and no network access.

Is there anyway to recover?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Does it boot without disk? Do you know what the previous firmware version was?

It doesn't boot without disk. Same symptom as disks are in.

I think it's probably the version before 4.4. I haven't turned it on for months and that's why I tried to update it once it's back online.

Hopefully, it's recoverable :(

If it also doesn't boot without disk things get complicated. In contrast to the newer 300 series this box doesn't have a double equipped flash. So a bad flash can brick the box.

But the box has an Oxnas processor, which might have a very pleasant quality, it can boot entirely from harddisk, bypassing the flash. Maybe it's possible to install Debian. viewtopic.php?f=237&t=5201
