It seems, that PLEX doesn't handles PLEX_MEDIA_SERVER_TMPDIR variable. We must use TMPDIR instead.
According to that links it's only used for transcoding? Does PMS for ARM do any transcoding?

Don't know if that's a good idea. That line is actually used by FFP to decide the sequence of script starting.

create_user_and_homedir is executed twice in script-at install and at start of plex. Do it really needs to be runned twice?
More or less. For installing the user must exist to be able to chown the directories.
Then it doesn't need to be executed again for starting, although it doesn't hurt, but after a reboot the user doesn't exist, so at least the 'create_user' part has to be executed.

Video transcoding surely not, but album art to thumbnails resizing-certainly does. This leads to very slow browsing on without-smart-apps TV's.
Maybe there is an audio transcoding too. Look at settings/advanced settings/transcoder in web configuration page:
Code:
[x] Enable Media Link down-mixing of DTS audio.
Media Link does not support DTS audio in certain regions. The Plex Media Server can automatically convert DTS to stereo so that it will play.

And "export TMPDIR" exists in Synology ARM package start-stop-status script also:
Code:
export TMPDIR=/volume1/Plex/tmp_transcoding
Should be on ReadyNAS too, I guess.
I think we should set it, to avoid fill in the RAMdisk in certain circumstances.

BTW. New version of Plex Media Server 0.9.7.12.407 is available.

Hah. The '3' package already downloads this version.

This is the perfect one to me. Only two things left in my wishes for the future fifth package release:
1. Increase sleep time to 3 seconds between stop and start in restart command.
2. Add a stop if PMS running to uninstall command.

Don't hurry with that M, I would like to test ReadyNAS package before.

General observations for users regarding PMS install, start and scanning times:
Code:
/ffp/start/plexmediaserver.sh install
takes about 2-3 minutes
Code:
/ffp/start/plexmediaserver.sh start
First start takes about 8-10 min, but better to leave it for 30 min (to let the Plex fully selfconfigure and because of plex automatical updates), before entering first time Plex/Web config page. Plex dev team is pushing updates very frequently.
Scanning of media library (149 GB-122 video files) is very quick, but downloading metadata takes about 1,5 hour. Applying downloaded metadata to films is also quick.
Browsing PMS media library with DLNA client TV Samsung LE32B652 (2009):
To enter media library takes about 2min  and to browse it from side to side I must wait untill every thumbnail is loaded, which is very slow :( , because PMS pushes NAS processor to its limits doing resizing of album art to thumbnail size. When all thumbnails are loaded, browsing is guick enough. Maybe this process would be faster on smart series TV with bigger cache, but I don't have one to test.
Nor Windows media player 12, nor VLC media player can browse PMS.

cheers,
B
P.S. >M btw, Plex is really using /mnt/HD_a2/programs/plex/tmp:
Code:

What a hell is this:
Code:
Plex       3926  1806   plex   31u  unknown                              /proc/3926/task/1806/fd/31 (readlink: No such file or directory)
Plex       3926  1806   plex   32u  unknown                              /proc/3926/task/1806/fd/32 (readlink: No such file or directory)
Plex       3926  1806   plex   33u  unknown                              /proc/3926/task/1806/fd/33 (readlink: No such file or directory)

PMS bug as usual?

That is an output of lsof. I suppose?

Could be a stale process/task. What if the task finishes while lsof is browsing it's open files?

I have tested ReadyNAS PMS package, and I don't see any difference in speed and behaviour comparing with Synology PMS package.
Maybe the difference can stand out on older NAS'es like NSA221 and 220? Who wants to try :?:
I think it is time to present PMS to others FFP users, and make it available on slacker repo.
M.> If you will make fifth release of package, I can make tutorial how to :) , but if you prefer to do it yourself, you are welcome. :D

The 220 won't be able to run it, as it only supports OABI binaries.

Please go ahead! I added the package to slacker.

I have FFP 7.0 installed on my flash drive and I need to update the version of Plex.

How do I go about doing this?
