Probably the bootloader of a D2 network 2 doesnt support GPT partition tables, needed to use 3TB disk. A msdos partion table can only address 2TB disk space. If you have used a gpt table to bootloader cannot read the disk

And if i change the hdd to 2TB , would my nas (that came factory shipped with 3tb ) accept the firmware for the 2tb version ?

If it came with a 3 TB disk from the factory than it should also work with that disk and the bootloader will support gpt partition tables. It means something else prevents the firmware loading.ps you could consider to use our fvdw-sl firmware or fvdw-sl console that runs under windows on your pc and is able to load a standalone kernel that runs from ram to investigste your disk, or load an uboot command window to check the bootloader (plugout.net)
