2Big Network 2 Disc is in idle mode still noisy

Post by Arjen » Sun Apr 29, 2012 12:22 pm

When the 2ig2 Network is in idle mode, it still produces a little noise. May be the fan,in that case is there need for? The power consumption is at minimum. Is there a method to switch off the fan when the 2Big is in idle mode?
May be other suggestions?

Code: Select all

echo 0 > /sys/bus/i2c/devices/0-003e/pwm1
might switch off the fan, but the fan controller daemon can easily switch it on again.

Vanilla kernel and fancontrol

Thanks.
Unfortunely I am not involved with kernels. I have to study how to do. And is there somewhere a tutorial "how to do"?
But nevertheless, I am wondering that the 2Big 2 is mounted in a cool place. So it can't be a temperature item. Also it is possible to command into sleep mode. In that case it is not interlocked by a temperature limit. I suppose that always in idle mode the fan is in operation. Why not when the harddrive spins up, the fan is started and controlled by temperature control.
Can other 2Big 2 owners confirm that in idle mode the fan makes some noise?
