Hi folks,

My NSM worked fine for a couple of years until I updated the firmware to 2.2.8.5. That almost bricked the device, but after trying the factory reset it now starts but reverts to the slow flashing blue light.

I haven't hacked or rooted the device or used any custom firmware. It uses a wired connection to my internet router, but doesn't show any connection there. The router's logs don't show any DHCP requests from the device, and the shares are not visible from either Windows or Mac machines.

There is a ton of data on the device that I'd like to recover before I do anything drastic, so any help would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Some more information after more detailed investigation...

I tried using the Lacie Network Assistant's "Recover" option using the latest & greatest firmware (2.2.10.1). The recovery process says it "sees" the NSM and starts, but stops with a "Cannot continue recovery process error" message after 10 minutes or so.

I watched the network traffic for to/from the unit using Wireshark, and during the recovery process it does indeed wake up. It assigns itself a static IP address based on subnet of the one of the machine initiating the recovery, successfully receives the capsule file using TFTP, reboots and then hangs. The recovery process polls for the NSM a number of times and then finally times out.

I left Wireshark running all night trying to "hear" any traffic from the NSM, but there wasn't a single packet.

Since I can't get at any logs on the NSM, I don't know where in the boot process it's hanging. However, since the recovery partially works with TFTP I have a bit more to go on now.
