Red Flashing Light!!!

Post by dan09 » Sat Jan 07, 2012 8:24 pm

I recently discovered that my home network drive has a periodically flash red light. i have search the forum with some unsuccessful customers and hoping that any advice into how to fix it would be successful.

The red light comes on as i turn the network drive on and the fan isn't even spinning which is not a good sign.

Please can you help thanks

According to the wiki the red led means drive failure. From your story I understand that your Nas is still working? AFAIK the only documented red flashing leds in this forum were boxes which didn't boot anymore.

So I've no idea how to interpret your report. Have a look for the smart status of the disk. When that's OK, I think you have no choice than ignoring it.

I can't use the drive because it is Alternating white/red.
so i can't use it on the network

I have ordered a usb cable to see if i am able to read the data that is on there, by booting ubuntu and too see if that works.

In the mean time is there a way to access the drive using the ethernet cable?

Not if the box doesn't boot. The network interface is started rather late in the booting process.

Managed to get all the data off, and somehow got the network drive to work again.
Thanks
