Which part of statement is not understandable? Why are you still trying to run console on NAS?

For Windows Serviio console, additional configuration is required:
EDIT:Due to recent changes in serviio FAQ, link is not available anymore.

It means, that you need to edit console options in file:
Code:
%SYSTEMDRIVE%\Program Files\Serviio\bin\ServiioConsole.exe.vmoptions

and specify your NAS ip or hostname:
Quote:
-Dserviio.remoteHost=192.168.0.3

P.S. Path to ServiioConsole.exe.vmoptions on 64-bit windows can be different. Look, where ServiioConsole shortcut leads to.

finally working :)

Thanks for your patience!

EDIT: really nice app, also found option to add stream (inet radios) via DLNA - great feature no other media server has it (plex, twonky, minidlna)

I tried to upgrade/reinstall Serviio 1.6 (from 1.4.x) and have run into a number of issues that I can't seem to figure out..

Upgraded Java to 8, ok, that works.

Initially Serviio would not start up, it would say "OK" but then the status would be "not running". After rebooting the NSA320 it seemed to work ok and has a running process after starting serviio.sh again.

Code:
root@NSA320:/ffp/start# sh serviio.sh status
PROCESS STATUS INFO: serviio is not running
root@NSA320:/ffp/start# sh serviio.sh start
Starting serviio...done! [ OK ]
root@NSA320:/ffp/start# sh serviio.sh status
PROCESS STATUS INFO: serviio is running with process ID(s):3894

However, trying to load the console page does not work.

http://192.168.1.102:23423/console/ says cannot connect to server, it doesn't appear to be running.

With Serviio 1.6 on Windows there is no ServiioConsole.exe.vmoptions file to edit, and creating the file to add the NAS IP does not do anything. The console only connects to the Windows server, or nothing.

I'm trying to get this running again just for the academics of making it work.. lately I've been using KODI on other media players and not using the NAS to actually be the server.

Mostly likely it starts and exits after several seconds for some reasons. Logs can give more light to current problem(s). Stop server. Remove logs:
Code:
rm -rf /ffp/opt/serviio/log/*
Start serviio again. Wait for a 1 minute or 2. Examine logs yourself or upload them to pastebin.com and links here.

It is definitely running. Do you set static ip for your NAS? If not, it can change to another IP in case of reboot or boot. Do you tried other browser? I have no problems accessing web console. If you can, disable temporary Antivirus and/or firewall. After that recheck again.

Indeed, since new Serviio version 1.6, web console (interface) is used to manage Serviio server. Web interface can be accessed at http://server_ip_address:23423/console. Windows native console, used in previous versions is not in business anymore, but it was more faster, stable and less buggy than new web console (interface). This new web console (interface) is integrated part of Serviio server. In the other words, if server is running, managing web interface should be available as well. Keep in mind that on NAS (at least mine NSA310) full serviio server start takes about 1 minute. Only after you can try to access web interface.

I forgot to mention that there were no serviio logs to examine. Size was 0.

Nothing changed, still doesn't work.

I am not oracle to see what have you done. Info "still doesn't work." is not enough.

Hello guys,

Last sunday I have successfully installed Serviio Server v 1.6 on my Zyxel NAS 325 v2 .

For this installation I read all the posts on this topic and the installation guide from http://forum.serviio.org/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=8933 .

Version updated after the review of barmalej2 . Thank you man!

For this installation I followed the below steps:

Prerequisites: Install FFP 0.7 on NAS 325 v2 .

1. Install Java 1.8.0_71

a. Go to Oracle platform and download the Java JDK Version 8 from here - http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/embedded/embedded-se/downloads/index.html .
You need to download the ARMv5/ARMv6/ARMv7 Linux - SoftFP ABI, Little Endian 2 - 102MB .
file name is: ejdk-8u71-linux-arm-sflt.gz
b. Extract this arhive with WinRAR (run as Administrator) .
c. Login to the NAS with WinSCP
d. Go to /usr/local/zy-pkgs/ffproot/ffp/opt/java
e. Copy folder "jre" into /usr/local/zy-pkgs/ffproot/ffp/opt/java
f. Modify the permission.
Execute: chmod -R 755 jre/*
g. Execute:
echo "export PATH=/ffp/opt/java/jre/bin:\$PATH" >> /ffp/etc/profile.d/java.sh
chmod a+x /ffp/etc/profile.d/java.sh
h. Logout and login into the NAS
i. Check if you installed correctly Java.
Execute: java -version
It should be displayed like this:
java version "1.8.0_71"
Java(TM) SE Embedded Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_71-b15, headless)
Java HotSpot(TM) Embedded Client VM (build 25.71-b15, mixed mode)

2. Install Ffmpeg 2 and Serviio ( install all 16 packages)

Execute this command:
slacker -UAa br2:ffmpeg2/ (about 11 packages)
slacker -UAa br2:serviio/ (about 5 packages)

3. Check if you installed correctly Ffmpeg.

Execute: ffmpeg -version
It should be displayed like this:
ffmpeg version 2.1.8-compiled_by_barmalej2_for_ffp0.7arm
built on Jun 12 2015 20:36:16 with gcc 4.9.2 (GCC)

4. Start Serviio Server

Execute this commnand: sh /ffp/start/serviio.sh start
It should be displayed like this:
Starting serviio...done! [ OK ]

6. Check if the Serviio Server started correctly.

Execute this command: ps -ef |grep serviio
It should be displayed like this:
serviio 31731 1 45 09:54 pts/1 00:00:20 /ffp/opt/java/jre/bin/java -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true -Djava.awt.headless=true -Dorg.restlet.engine.loggerFacadeClass=org.restlet.ext.slf4j.Slf4jLoggerFacade -Dderby.system.home=/ffp/opt/serviio/library -Dserviio.home=/ffp/opt/serviio -Dffmpeg.location=ffmpeg -Ddcraw.location=dcraw -Dserviio.fixedPointEncoders -Xmx248M -Xms248M -XX:GCTimeRatio=1-XX:MinHeapFreeRatio=10 -XX:MaxHeapFreeRatio=20 -classpath /ffp/opt/serviio/lib/*:/ffp/opt/serviio/config org.serviio.MediaServer
root 31889 21854 0 09:55 pts/1 00:00:00 grep serviio

7. Autostart service Serviio.
Execute: chmod 755 /ffp/start/serviio.sh

8. Open the Serviio Console & Media Browser

By default the address for accessing the Serviio Console is : http://NAShost:23423/console and the Media Browser is: http://NAShost:23424/mediabrowser/

Mapping some video locations.

That's all folks :)

In this moment I have some performance issues when I play a movie from media browser. The movie is playing about 10 seconds and then it stops to load for about 30 secs. I think that if I pause the movie I create a buffer time and then the movie is played without interruption. It doesn't have any improved ???

When I start a movie the serviio server uses about 100 % CPU.

I checked the log file and I figured that I have some warning messages.

"2016-01-24 19:05:12,403 INFO [RestletServer] Starting Restlet server (/mediabro...skipping... Error configuring filters.

Please help me with some advice about the configuration of codecs/applications to increase a little bit the performance for this application.

Thanks,
Silviu

Good work Silviu. However several remarks:
1. You are installing old version of java. Latest available is 1.8.0_71 at:
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/embedded/embedded-se/downloads/index.html
2. ok
3. ok
4. Not needed at all.
5. Typing mistake: sh serviio.sh -start
One liner is easier:
Code:
sh /ffp/start/serviio.sh start

6. Ok, if you have problems with start up. Normally you can use the same script:
Code:
sh /ffp/start/serviio.sh status

7. Standart console url is
Code:
http://server_ip_address:23423/console

To enable autostart, if everything is good, use command:
Code:
chmod 755 /ffp/start/serviio.sh

Regarding your problem. Serviio tries to transcode played content and fails due to weak CPU on NAS. Disable all transcoding related features and subtitles burning in web console. Use player/device, which natively supports played content and doesn't needs transcoding.

Thank you barmalej2 for your replay, I updated my first post after your review. I have installed the last version of Java and I stop the transcoding from the Serviio Console. Which player do you use ? In this moment I use VLC for IOS, it's very good, but for some movie i have a probleme with audio codec. IOS don't support AC3 audio codecs.

When you connect with WinSCP, in the login windows please select "SFTP" for the "File Protocol" and than login with root username.

Copy into NAS only the jre folder . In the below I give you my location after I extracted all the file from the archive.

".....\ejdk-8u71-linux-arm-sflt\ejdk-8u71-fcs-b15-linux-arm-sflt-22_dec_2015\ejdk1.8.0_71\linux_arm_sflt\jre"

Another option is to use Oracle java installer tool:
http://forum.nas-central.org/viewtopic.php?f=249&t=18267
It will automatically download and install java directly on NAS.

Hey guys,
First of all I wanted to thank you, this guide has helped me through all the problems I have had setting up Serviio 1.5.1 on my server. It´s running flawlessly so far. The only problem I have right now is the startup script which is not working for me. I´ver tried everything including changing paths and names for the file. Chmod a+x has been done. I get the following error:
Code:
root@Server41:~# /ffp/start/serviio.sh start
Starting Serviio
start-stop-daemon: need at least one of --exec, --pidfile, --user or --name
Try 'start-stop-daemon --help' for more information.
/ffp/start/serviio.sh: line 22: --background: command not found
Failed
root@Server41:~#

Iam using the standard Startup Script which has also been posted here, as you can see it´s saved under /ffp/start/serviio.sh (I´ve also tried serviiod.sh)
Does anyone know whats going on?
Any help greatly appreciated
