Well, the linked commit's name is Samung bookmark - go back to the beginning of the movie if less than 30 seconds was played.. So the begin of the movie (if You didn't watch more that 30 sec from the movie) is not a bug, more likely a feature. :D

From my point of view it would be feature if it would work as intended. Let's wait for comments from Grego.

I hate having the fix for the 1.2.0 ;)

Resuming is playing movie from the last view point. Correct?

Yes that's it. For example, you watch a movie, after an hour you go to bed. The next day, you will resume at the exact place where you stopped.
I have two samsung tv, I can juggle between it. On other brands I do not know if it is possible.

How bookmarks are used? Can you explain wider?

Sorry, I have a hard time understanding. I thought it was just the fact that minidlna create the database.
In fact, each movie position of the film must be saved in the db.
This allows you to take several movies in progress.

Each video started will resume when it is stopped.

Movie mp hoping it will show better

Sorry, google translate :(

I don't know but with minidlna 1.1.5, one, two second played = resume
With other version, 30< or >30, not resume on samsung tv

That is possible. Overall idea was good, but actually the way it was implemented, it broken bookmarks on Samsung TV's. It would be nice that anyone else having Samsung TV can confirm issue with bookmarks/play resuming.
Meanwhile here is patched 1.2.0 version to test:
http://downloads.zyxel.nas-central.org/Users/barmalej2/ffp/0.7/arm/packages/testing/minidlna/minidlna-1.2.0_gitb0cd672-arm-1.txz
P. S. It would be less misunderstandings, if the feature would be called playmarks. But it isn't. So, for the future let's agree that bookmarks=play resuming.

I'm sorry, but I didn't got the point.

If You start the movie, but You don't reach the first 30 secs, at the next playback, it will start that movie from the beginning. That's a cool feature I think, because my camera names the recorded videos as the current date, and some random hash, So I don't know sometimes, which one is the interesting recording. And that case, I just 'fly across' on the whole folder. And a lot of resumed video isn't good, because I didn't really watched them.

But a config param would be nice for toggleing.

Anyways, I have a Samsung Smart (J series) TV, and everything works, as I expected. If I watch the first 30 sec, at the next open, it loads the resumed point, otherwise it starts the video from the 0:00 point.

BTW, @Grego, Iike the miniDLNA version at Your signature!

I totally agree that it is useless to resume reading if it is 30 <but it does not work with me like that.
The latest version of barmalej2 works great.
When you watch a 2h movie, and you cut in the middle and you have to move forward, it's not great.

It's the same, on minidlna 1.1.5 and x265, impossible to resume a movie in progress, it will be the beginning.

EDIT : I speak for myself, either I do not know how to use it or I do not have the material it takes.
Both are not impossible;)

@MrDini
I can understand your situation with recorded videos, but how many movies you watched less than 30 seconds?
Can you paste full your Samsung TV model ID?

Well, I don't watch movies from my NAS, for that I Can use NetFlix and so on...

But the releases from the torrent sites are usually some short blabla... For example, who knows, what that release name means?: WoObrrip.mkv In this case the manual opening, and seeking to the first frames Can help the user figure out, what's that movie. :)

But yes, that isn't the most powerful feature in minidlna...

Certainly. This is an UE58J5000 model.

Gotcha! So if You seek to the movie's finish for example, it starts the playback from the first frame? Well, I will test that tomorrow. The resume (if I watch the first 30 from the beginning) works for me, but I didn't tested, how it behave if I seek in the film.

Summing up the reported results of current MiniDLNA 1.2.0 release (available as ffp package in br2 repo), we have the following situation with bookmarks/playback resuming on Samsung TV's:

1. UE58J5000 (2015) - working
2. UE48JU6400 (2015) - not working
3. UE32ES5500 (2012) - not working

Second and third reported as working with bookmarks using specific (patched) Minidlna 1.2.0 version.

I am waiting for feedback from others Samsung TV's owners, before making final conclusion-this is bug or not.
Steps to reproduce situation:
1. Install/upgrade current MiniDLNA 1.2.0 release.
2. Play a movie or video more than or at least 31 second.
3. Exit DLNA client.
4. Enter DLNA client again (list of videos served by Minidlna on NAS).
5. Playback again the same movie or video from the last point of watch (from 31 second without forwarding/seeking).
It would be nice to test this with different media containers:avi, mp4, mkv, mov.

Hello Guys!

I really need your help!
I'm trying to install minidlna on my NSA320 without success.
I did exactly the same steps as in the 1st post.
But I can not start it because libraries are missing.
I got msg that libavformat was not found so run slacker -uiA br2:ffmpeg and install.
Then tried to start minidlna again and got msg that can't load libgnutls.
So run slacker -a gnutils.
After it tried again to start but got same message but with libhogweed.
Now I'm trying to find it but can not.

I tried several times to install but without any luck.
Could you please help and guide me how to do install this or what I'm doing wrong?
Unfortunately I can not find any up to date guide on how to do this.

Thanks a lot for your help.

Hi,

Try this method, it will automagically install all the dependencies.

It is really ridiculous. The basic bookmarks testing instructions with direct link to full minidlna install instructions was right before your first post.

You used slacker tool to install minidlna package. Slacker doesn't install dependent packages auto for minidlna. Use slapt-get instead of slacker:
Code:
slapt-get --remove minidlna

Then follow instructions to install latest ffp minidlna release.
