NSA310: Repeating shares/folders

Post by houston80 » Thu Dec 07, 2017 7:08 pm

Hello,

I have been using my NSA310 for many years. At some point it happened that when browsing the NAS server contents (e.g. on windows explorer), the share/folders are repeating recursively. I.e. I see this kind of folder:

\\nsa310\photo\photo\photo\photo\photo\photo

Like this:
nsa310_photo_folders.jpg
and
nsa310_photo_folders2.jpg
This seems to go on for ever, and each of the photo folders has exactly the same contents.

Same thing with the 'video', 'music', 'admin' and 'public' shares. Any idea what could have caused this and how to fix it?
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

I have read about this before, and I vaguely remember someone had an explanation how this started, but I can't remember the details.

Anyhow, the problem is caused by a symlink inside the 'photo' directory, also named 'photo', which points to it's parent. You can solve it by logging in over telnet or ssh, and execute

Code: Select all

rm /i-data/md0/photo/photo
This deletes the symlink. If it complains 'directory not empty', then it's not a symlink, but a real directory. In that case we'll have to look further.
