Problems with FFP on NSA310

Post by Bohr » Sat Mar 17, 2018 10:23 pm

Hi guys.
I have problems with FFP no my NSA310.
I've had an FFPstick, but something was wrong, and while Transsmision was working, the stick went down (red USB led instead of green).
After reboot everything seemd fine, but after some time the same happened again and again.
After a week or so the stick went down for good. It didn't boot again.
So I tried with FFP as zypkg.
I managed to install it (manualy uploading packages with FileZilla), turned the package on and...telnet does not work, nither ssh. Even FTP server is not working - I can not get connection (ECONNREFUSED - Connection refused by server).
NSA310 boots up, as NAS works normaly - Zyxel WebUI works, network drive works...but I've turned the Tranmission from Zyxel package and the UI (web and remote) does not work...
I've uninstalled everything and tried with ftp, still does not work.
I've tried FFPstick - din't install. System led is blinking on the box, but does not instal, nor start.
I've started FFP as repo again.
Theoretically it started. The log in zy-pkg/ffp is generated, accessed through file manager text below:

What should I do to make it work?

Update.
Now even there is no access to network drive...after rebooting works normally.
Zyxel WebUI works normaly, but active sessions are showing spinning cicle.

After reseting to default settings nothing changes, except that I can't change default password "1234" to anything. Reseting again changes nothing in the password matter.

Guys, any help?

Not sure if it will help you, but try to disable temporary all installed zyxel packages, then reboot NAS and reset password.

Thanks, but I've done that and it didn't help.

Little update about the status:
MetaRepository works, so does Dropbear, MidnightCommander.
Entware with packages minidlna and Transmission also work fine.
When I reboot NSA310, all things above start normally and work fine. After some time access to network drive stops working (Samba stops or crusches?), but packages including Dropbear terminal, minidlna, Transmission work just fine. So does the Zyxel WebUI.
Can't change Zyxel WebUI password, but the terminal password changes despite that (after inputing new password, WebUI says, that the old password is incorrect).

I have no idea, how to solve this without formatting the hdd.
Dou you have any clue how to manage the problem?

Sorry, but no idea, what is going on. I am not familiar with ffp-zypkg version. Have you ZyXel-samba replacement package installed?

No, I haven't installed any replacement. Anything particular on your mind?

FFP is uninstalled now.
I have Entware-ng package installed. There is samba36 package.

What do you mean? It is available or it is installed? Entware-ng package?
In case of installed, uninstall it.

I haven't install it, it's on the list of packages for Entware http://pkg.entware.net/binaries/armv7/Packages.html.
I'll check if it's active.

If it's not active, should I just try to install?
Will it work instead of samba in Zyxels' firmware?

1. Nope.
2. I don't know.
2.1 Option is known-use adapted for Zyxel's Entware-ng (Mijzelf) package :

Done, thank you for that hint.
Works fine for now.
I'll test it.

Any ideas about the password problem?
I've tried again reseting with all packages disabled and it didn't work.

How do you set new password? Via command line or via Web UI (ZyXel admin page)?

Via WebUI (ZyXel admin page).

Setting password via command line will not survive reboot, so it is not relevant.
Password change should be always done using Web UI (NAS administration page), but something is wrong (maybe password hashes are damaged) and I have no idea how fix that without full reset. Try to pm Mijzelf, maybe he will have some briliant ideas.

The command line login for admin uses the password hash in /etc/shadow, and the samba and webinterface login the hash in /etc/samba/smbpasswd. So it seems the hash in smbpasswd is damaged.

You can try to override it. Login as root, and execute

Code: Select all

/usr/bin/smbpasswd admin
Give a new password, to get a known hash. Then login over the webinterface, and change it. This way the hash is stored on a non-volatile place. (/etc/samba/smbpasswd is volatile, and has to be regenerated on each boot.)
