HELP Please
I thought a simple question lol
How can I find the www URL of a file on my NAS310 when I am at home? So I can pass it on to someone to download anywhere in the world
I can only get ftp access with Filezilla on LAN at home (wont connect on WAN) so OK I can copy the URL but it’s useless unless you are on my home network. I have tried changing the 192.168 etc. bit in the path to the global external IP but no good.
However if I log on via Filezilla at work…. BINGO, I can access all files again but this time of course the URL IS the global one which is then fine to send around as it takes you straight to the file from wherever you are
Also the NSA310 home page often gets stuck loading and although I can get on via Filezilla I have to do a factory re set to use the interface
What I get when I log on with Filezilla with global IP address at home and at work:

FROM HOME
Status: Connected
Status: Retrieving directory listing...
Command: PWD
Response: 257 "/" is your current location
Command: TYPE I
Response: 200 TYPE is now 8-bit binary
Command: PORT 192,168,0,2,192,138
Response: 500 I won't open a connection to 192.168.0.2 (only to 86.19.213.11)
Command: PASV
Response: 227 Entering Passive Mode (192,168,0,4,108,27)
Status: Server sent passive reply with unroutable address. Using server address instead.

FROM WORK :)

Status: Connected
Status: Retrieving directory listing...
Command: PWD
Response: 257 "/" is your current location
Command: TYPE I
Response: 200 TYPE is now 8-bit binary
Command: PASV

Command: MLSD
Response: 150 Accepted data connection
Response: 226-ASCII
Response: 226-Options: -a -l
Response: 226 8 matches total
Status: Directory listing successful

When I understand well this all boils down to 'how to find my public ip'? http://whatismyip.com

As Mizjelf has said. This is just a case of not understanding NAT (Network Address Translation) and configuring your router/firewall to allow the correct access.
If it is FTP access you are after then you need to forward packets from port 21 to your NAS box through your router.
