ix4-200d - install debian

Post by mabalaru » Tue Aug 09, 2011 10:15 am

I am new with Iomega nas ix4-200d.

I read this post: http://iomega.nas-central.org/wiki/Ix2- ... stallation for installing debian on ix2-200d.
Did anybody tried this on ix4-200d?
Someone have an detailed how-to for installing Debian on ix2 or ix4?

The idea is that I have root access, but I need my linux to be clean (without any software from iomega).
Can anyone tell me that ix4-200d can handle routing?

Thank you

I wouldn't know if the above installation would work.
What I've done is the following:
ssh to /boot/images -> copy any images over there to a USB-device (for backup)
enable ssh permanently -> vi /etc/init.d/ssh -> remove the #
mount something in your device, so that reboot or shutdown would fail -> mount -o loop /nfs/public/somedir /nfs/public/someotherdir
call a sohoshutdown in ssh
you will now be taken to the absolute root of your system. There you have a script called mountimages.sh or something like that. Open it and find the parts where they mount the apps images. You will see that it stands ro -> Read Only ... remove that.
reboot your device
go to /etc/init.d/executored (the software of iomega) and put a # in every program behind the start. This is the only startup script that will work, so if you need to call some other startup scripts, call them here! Also important to mention is that you will need a script that will initialise your lan-interface because otherwise you won't get an ip and your device will be bricked!

Good luck!

Does anybody have more ideas or details on how to remove iomega software or just have debian run on the system ?

Or anyone have an example of the script that will initialise tha lan-interface on the ix4 200d if I am to update the /etc/init.d/executored file as mentioned above.
