An LG-NAS serves files to a mixed group of PCs. I've copied all the files over to the NAS from the existing server, but they've lost all the permissions for anyone other than the owner (ie they're all rwx --- --- [700])

How can I give group read/write access? Is there a way to get a command line on the NAS? telnet and SSH both rejected.

Changing the permission on a file browser on a client has no effect.

The files were transfered with rsync -a, but the -a flag was obviously ignored.

TIA

Telephone support for LG-NAS tell me that this is how it is supposed to work - the NAS changes permissions so that only the original owner has any permissions.

They also advise that there is no way to change the permissions other than by ssh, but they are not allowed to tell me how to enable ssh!

If the above is true, why is it caled an NAS, since nobody else on the network can access files on it?
