Hi to all,
I was thinking about to buy a Nas of two bays. A lot of model comes with a limitations of the capacity of HD (i.e.: 4, 6 or 8 TB)
I'm planning to buy the nas and to upgrade it for a long time. So, here comes the question: which are the 2 bays nas who don't have this kind of limitation?
thanks to all!

Nas HD capacity Limitation
Re: Nas HD capacity Limitation
All those boxes run Linux, and Linux has no problem with any current disk size. The given limitations are only indicating the sizes which are tested on that models. I am only aware of a limitation on volume size. An ext3 filesystem can not be bigger than 16TiB. So if you have 2 disks >8TB (which is smaller than 8TiB) in a single volume (RAID0 or Linear RAID) it can't contain an ext3 filesystem, nor an ext4 filesystem if the kernel is too old. (3.2.something or older)

Re: Nas HD capacity Limitation
So, for exemple, the d-link DNS-320L, that, in the site description, is said to have "capacity up to 8TB", can deal with much bigger capacities? [It supports ext4 filesystem, who supports up to 1 ExaByte HD
]
thanks

Re: Nas HD capacity Limitation
I wouldn't be surprised if you can put 16TB disks in it, if you can find them. But according to this thread the box has an 2.6.31.8 kernel, which is too old to support volumes >16TiB on ext4.
But 2 disks with a single volume each might work without problems.
