The RED light of DEATH

Post by brucewein » Sun Dec 08, 2013 3:05 pm

Hi all,

Yesterday my HMNHD-CE 1TB just died and i got the permanent red led on the front panel.

I took the HDD out hoping that the data can be retrieved but my Win8 machine didn't even recognized it in the storage management, so did the BIOS - the HDD is officially dead !

I have a brand new 1TB HDD (WD Nas RED EDITION 1TB) + another working HMNHD-CE 1TB

What are my options ?

Should I just Clonezilla from the working one to the new hoping that it was just the HDD that died ?

Please help to revive my broken NAS

There are instructions in the Wiki about installing new firmware on your disk (have also a look at the 'complete recovery' chapter).

If you create a bitwise copy of your disk, it should also work. But I don't know if CloneZilla does so. There is a lot of data which is outside the normal partition structure.
