Ix2-dl lenovo

Post by Beausdad » Mon Mar 13, 2017 11:24 am

Hi guys, new hear.

Been reading online how to get serial access to the Lenovo id2-dl. Worked out the hardware but this is what I get from putty.

115200-8-n-1-Xonoff

Basically I just want to turn it into a pure Linux whisky box..

Help?

Beausdad..

A few pointers.
  • AFAIK there is no software handshake, but that won't cause your problem here.
  • You are aware you can't use a RS232 port of a PC? You need a level switcher, or an USB to serial TTL 3.3V convertor.
  • Do not connect the Vcc line. You should only have 3 wires connected.
  • Test your cable by shorting TX and RX. Your terminal should have local echo, in that case.

Thanks, I will try to find the hardware you have suggested.

Is there a faster way to flash the device with a clean Linux os?

Peter.

Faster than what?

I think you theoretically don't need to have serial access at all. On an IX2-NG you don't, as the kernel and initramfs is located on harddisk, and flash only contains a bootloader.
I *think* on a DL kernel and initramfs is also on disk, but I don't know how the bootloader decides to boot them instead of the kernel in flash.

Anyway, maybe this is nice to read.
