O dear. That looks like an rs232 port. The serial port of the HMNHD-CE is not rs232. It's 3.3V TTL. You need something like this.

That's really weird. I have a usb-to-serial chip bought on internet, I found it to be a Prolific PL2303 chip. No way to have a console, both with linux and windows. I had it running changing tx and rx and connecting gnd after some seconds.

Hi:
I use a CP2102 chip, with driver from https://www.silabs.com/products/mcu/Pages/USBtoUARTBridgeVCPDrivers.aspx
use putty, serial connection (make sure to which port the usb its attached to) and 115200-8-1-n (no xon/xoff). TX-RX; GND-GND; RX-TX.

For my part I would be grateful if someone could make a picture with the PCB putting the description next to the pins and update the Wiki article with it. I fried my second adapter yesterday because I misread the textual description :(
