Hi Mijzelf,
it's very interesting and I think I'll try it out.

By the way, do you know a way to save the current (official) firmware, just in case I need to go back to it? Unfortunately, I can't find any download for it available on the Belkin official site.

AFAIK there is only one firmware version, the shipped one. And so there is no need to offer a download. When I got this box, I have searched for the firmware, to sift it to find a way to enable telnet. I couldn't find it that time, so I downloaded the GPL sources instead.

Rebuilding the firmware from the original GPL sources is a trivial task, which I could do for you if you want. However, there is no way to guarantee that it will give exact the same firmware.

You can backup your current firmware:
Code:
dd if=/dev/sxapp of=/path/to/backup
But I don't know if there is an (easy) way to put it back. Maybe just reverting:
Code:
dd if=/path/to/backup of=/dev/sxapp
maybe converting it to a motorola hexfile (make sure the addresses fit) and using sxflash to flash it. (A great tool btw. It saved me several times while creating my custom firmware. Thanks Wladimir!)

Well, if you could provide a firmware flashable through the web interface using the original GPL sources I would be grateful.

I know there's no guarantee that it will be the exact same version of the currently installed firmware, but I think we could be pretty confident...

Thank you very much Mijzelf, you've been very kind.

I will try your custom firmware as soon as possible.

Mauro.

Cool, another hacker discovered this device :) I wonder why it's so little known.
My father in law, who is a car accident lawyer in Los Angeles and is really intelligent, has been asking me this question for a while, and I was not sure how to answer him.
If you manage to brick it, I've written an ethernet based unbricker for the device that can always write new firmware (as long as the bootloader is intact).

Ha..Ha...Ha. :D :D.Thanks for the information.

I have a Belkin home base and a router. It is working fine. My friend is also having a Belking home base, but for him there are problems similar to the one you described. But I am not good in technical stuff, that’s the reason I do not understand it. I will provide him this solution.
