In my iomega ez media 2 TB the single disc is not ready (it is clicking) and I sustitute it with a 250gb before buying a seagate barracuda 2TB like the original.
I make the 2 dd's on the disc and deployed the firmware into emctools/hm3_images/files.tgz in a 32 gb microsd card fat 32 formatted.

I connected disc and microsd (by an adapter) to ez media (disassembled ) and make a video

https://www.dropbox.com/s/k13u222dy0a6s ... 8.mp4?dl=0

The ez media is continuously looping in this mode:

white led solid for 20 seconds
white blinking , blu solid for 2 minutes and usb accessing led on
2 reds solid and reboot

I prepared the disc with prepare_hd.zip too , i used EZMedia-recovery-4.0.2.9960.zip and downloaded the last firmware
hm3-4.1.108.32627.tar.gz putting it on usb disk into emctools/hm3_images/files.tgz , extract initrd and zImage putting them on hard disc by dd......but the result is always the same:
after the 2 reds solid light it appears to reboot.
I used 3 others usb stick ( 512 mb , 4 gb and 64 gb) instead the microsd.....same results

Any suggestions ???
thanks

Have you checked if the old disk is really dead?

Hello friends
Many thanks!!! it is real worked!!!
Sorry for my bad english.

step by step manual :)

need:
Linux PC (i use debian)
USB pendrive 2Gb formatted FAT32!
New HDD for NAS (i use seagate ST1000DM003)

1. format USB pendrive to FAT32
2. download EZMedia-recovery-4.0.2.9960.zip, and unpack into a usb pedrive with folders: emctools\hm3_images\files.tgz.
3. copy files.tgz to Linux PC at /home/username*/ez
4. unpack files.tgz to /home/username*/ez

Then connect the drive with an adapter to the pc, leaving raw disk and performing these commands in console
(I use direct connection new HDD to Linux PC on sata2 port)

sudo dd if=/home/username*/ez/zImage of=/dev/sdb bs=512 seek=2048
sudo dd if=/home/username*/ez/initrd of=/dev/sdb bs=512 seek=8192

*username - must be changed to your real username, from linux pc

after sending the message complete, remove the disk and connect it to the NAS, with usb pendrive connected.
Press reset button on nas and plug NAS power adapter to outlet and wait!
after ~30-40 sec. on USB pendrive flash led will be active blink and i release reset button
After a few minutes NAS will turn off and leds off.
Now you must remove the USB pendrive and press the power button!

And that's it!

warning! Do not all usb pendrive is worked, i tested:
Silicon power 4gb - dont work
Transcend 8gb - dont work
A-Data 2gb - worked :-)

Good luck!

Confirmed working with a new Seagate 3TB Drive. I used an OpenSuse Live Cd to run the commands.

Thanks.

Hello all,
Could you help me with the same issue. Earlier I had 2TB Seagate which had BAD blocks. I've got WD Red 3TB and I had went throw the instruction step by step not once ). But always result is the same:
1. Iomega has one RED Led
2. USB stick's light is no changing (no solid).
Therefore I do not have successful result to recover my Iomega EZ. I think, maybe, the reason of unsuccessful result is WD? )

Thank you in advance for your support, guys!

I tried different ways to recover but first of all I downloaded ***recovery***.zip and prepare_hd.zip.
1st way:
1.formatted a usb stick with FAT32 file system (I had different USB stick - transcend 8GB, Kingston 8GB, Transcend 4GB and 2 USB sticks "noName" 4 and 8 GB)
2.1 uncompressed ***recovery***.zip into the USB stick
3. connected HDD Western Digital RED 3TB to PC via doc-station (USB)
4. Loaded PC via Live Win7 64
5. Deleted all partitions from the HDD (WD RED 3TB) via Acronis under Live Win7 and reboot PC
6. Loaded PC via Live LinuxUbuntu and uncompressed the file"prepare_hd.zip" onto Linux desctop (I've got the file "prepare_hd" on Linux Desktop. After that I opened Terminal.
7. Typed the commands "sudo dd if=/path/to/prepare_hd of=/dev/sdd bs=1M" (sdd - my letter is "d") That was written, then I switch off PC.
8. Reconnected HDD from PC (doc-station) to IOMEGA EZ
9. Put USB stick (formatted with FAT32, with unpacked ***recovery***.zip - p.2.1) to IOMEGA EZ
10. Switched on IOMEGA EZ (I kept/did not keep the button "reset" on IOMEGA - rsult is one - no any results)

2nd way:
Very similar for 1st way but differnces are:
1. - 5. The same as in 1st way
6. Loaded PC via Live LinuxUbuntu and uncompressed the file"***recovery***.zip" onto Linux desctop (I've got a lot of files on Linux Desktop including "zImage" and "initrd". After that I opened Terminal.
7. Typed the commands (command by command)
"sudo dd if=/path/to/zImage of=/dev/sdd bs=512 seek=2048
sudo dd if=/path/to/initrd of=/dev/sdd bs=512 seek=8192" (sdd - my letter is "d") That was written, then I switch off PC.
8. - 10. The same as in 1st way

Result of these operations:
when I switch on IOMEGA EZ, IOMEGA's one LED is shining by white colour. After 10-15 sec., the LED is switched over red colour.

Thanks

Both are correct, as far as I can see.

That can be caused by u-boot failing to load the kernel from harddisk. Does the disk spin up? What is the power consumption of that disk, compared to the old one?

Do you by chance have serial access?

Sorry for a long time with answer.
The disk does spin up no problems. The old one disk was thrown away so it is not possible to compare power consumption of both disks. Only data of the new disk: 5VDC-0.6A; 12VDC-0.45A.

Sorry, What did you mean under "serial access"?

Thanks

That doesn't look alarming.

It is possible to hook up a serial cable, giving console access to the bootloader and linux, and where you can read the bootlog.

Can you hear the disk spin up? Is the power supply sufficient?
