Hi all,

My unit is unable to boot up. Each time I powered it on, the LCD shows an USB and network icon after the Lenovo/EMC logo. If I plugged disks into it, the disk LED permanent blue, the system LED blinking red then rebooted automatically. I've tried different combinations of factory reset, removed all disks, unplugged network cable, all got no luck.

The unit can get an IP address from DHCP server while connections were refused.

I've downloaded px4px6-4.0.4.14600-recovery.zip after read this post. I extracted the emctools folder to a FAT32 usb drive, plugged it in with reset button hold, the unit stucked on the lenovo/EMC logo screen.

Can someone guide me through how to recover the unit? Thanks.

Does that usb stick have a led, and can you see if it's accessed?

Thanks Mijzelf for your reply and sorry for late response as out of town.
Yes, it has LED blinking at the beginning together with the power button (guested during POST stage, only one WD 4TB drive plugged and it is not on the approved list.).
The usb stick stopped blinking after a while, so does the power button, and the display showed only Lenovo emc logo. (I kept reset button pressed for few minutes). It stucks here.
I am not sure whether there are other steps missed
1. Is the usb stick has to be a bootable? I formatted it in Windows to FAT32, and unzipped your file to emctools directly.
2. Does the hard drive plugged in has to be approved one?
3. Do I have to clean (using diskpart in Windows, or should I do it in Linux?) the hard drive as per lenovo’s guide?

I will try other ways as in this forum but for ix4 such using firmware updater tomorrow.

Unfortunately I can't answer most of your questions. I don't have a PX box, and I never touched one. All IX boxes have an Arm CPU, and u-boot as bootloader. *Maybe^ a PX has a BIOS instead. That can be a big difference. I created that zipfile the same way I created imager files for IX boxes, but I can't remember if I ever got feedback it actually worked.

Shouldn't matter. SATA is SATA. Only if it it has a not supported size it could be a problem. But I guess the box supports >2TB.

On a IX the recovery is triggered by either the reset button pressed during start, or a not recognized partition table. So I should remove all partitions, to be sure. It doesn't matter if you use Linux or Windows for that.

Hi Mijzelf and all,

I managed to connect a TTL-USB to the serial_B on the board [read this]and grabbed the bios and the grub menu images. Sorry I am not familiar with Linux and hope you can give me some hints to move to next step to recover my device. Thanks.

ps: if I choose the factory reset, the LED display shows 25% and the log below.

Are you sure about that first 4 lines in the kernel log? They don't belong there. Busybox is some userspace Linux program, while the kernel starts booting on line 5.

I can tell you what is going wrong, but not why. The EMC lifeline rootfs contains 3 loopmounted filesystems. For some reason the 2nd fails on your box:

What you see here is the file apps being loopmounted, and then config. Config fails, I think the file doesn't exist, and the errormessage you is is that loopdevice /dev/loop1 doesn't exist.
The bootscript sees that the loopdevice can't be mounted, and tries to check the filesystem. This fails, because there is no device, and so no filesystem.

Big question. Why is there no config file? The apps file, which is in the same directory, does exist.

Are you booting into SOHORecovery here? If yes, is the imager stick inserted?

No usb stick inserted at the moment I did the factory reset. I plugged only one WD 4TB drive in first slot.

(I don’t have any imager stick from Lenovo.)

I tried again choosing SOHORecovery with reset button pressed and hold, no luck to recover the box.

No, the log was captured when doing soho factory reset.
On an IX box a factory reset is actually deleting the 'config' file, and extracting a new one from /usr/local/cfg/config.gz. (The 'config' file is loopmounted on /etc, and contains all configuration files.)
It seems your 'config' file is missing, so maybe the factory reset worked halfway. The strange point is that the config.gz file is inside the 'apps' file, which seems to mount fine. So why doesn't it extract a new one?

looks like it expects more files than the recovery has.

And I can't decode what it's doing with sdb and sdc. sda is the harddisk, as is stated in the log: 'sda is hard disk', 'sda is not removable'. sdc is a Sandisk Cruzer 16GB stick. But what is sdb? It seems to be installing the firmware on that device, but I would expect it to be installed on sda.

Is there an internal bootdisk which is sda? There might be some internal flashdisk. If so, I should expect it to show up in the bios screen.

The PX4/PX6-300d have a standard PC board, Intel Atom dual core processor with BIOS on board and 1Gb on board flash memory for OS.
There is a small VGA connector on motherboard but you need to build an custom adapter from this connector to standard VGA connector in order to connect a PC display.
If you want to reinstall the OS you need to request the reimager software from Iomega/Lenovo support team and sign a non disclosure agreement.
