7200 rpm Drive for NAS?

Post by golfnut324 » Tue Feb 11, 2014 5:36 pm

Sorry to jump in here so quick but I've got a bunch of parts coming in today and planned on starting my first build of anything. Included are (4) 3tb 7200 rpm hard drives. Then I read freenas spec sheet and they don't recommend 7200 drives because they're not suitable for multi-user writes. Is that true? Maybe I should return and replace with 5400 drives?

Thanks for helping.

Best to get drives that are designed for 24x7 operation (WD Red / Seagate NAS / etc). If you want better performance than this (a noticeable difference at least) try enterprise drives.
