I have been experiencing poor performance in my laptop and it often gives me warnings (my anti-virus). I guess there are viruses in my laptop but I don’t understand how there could be one as I always had anti-virus activated. Recently I went through VPN services and most of them said something about protection, Does VPN offer protection against Virus?

Not at present. While VPN provides considerable security against network eavesdropping, it does not offer security against other Internet threats. For information about protecting your computer from viruses and other attacks, see the CIT Security page.

VPN does not offer protection against viruses. A VPN only protects your data from data monitoring and location tracking. basically a VPN protects your device by encrypting your data depending on which protocol is being used at that particular time. For instance, PPTP provides you a better speed but is weak on encryption. Some VPN like OneVPN come equipped with Anti-malware; that offers virus protection.
