Found some really good documentation for the SoC used in NSA-220+ (and other). With these at hand it may be possible to figure out how to access the beeper and the other GPIO pins. The 88F5182-A2 have a 26-bit General Purpose Port I/O and maybe some unused are available, or maybe tap into the I2C bus (called TWSI in their doc). Have to read the docs and check the PCB for more than serial port header later.

if the nsa220 has a 88F5182 board why not try if you use the rd88f5182 setup file as present in the orion git of the linux vanilla kernel

We should try to make a similar build target to the other mach-orion5x machines. Excellent examples are DNS323 and MSS2 which could be found at arch/arm/mach-orion5x folder of kernel source. Only problem at the moment I see is finding the proper GPIOs and addresses for controlling buttons/LEDs. Also I have no clue what's the i2c device that used to use the lm85 module for sensors and fanspeed.

I was trying to compile a kernel under debian but after trying it out I wasn't able to boot to the system anymore (most likely a bad kernel config, no real experience at this subject). I guess finding errors without a serial cable is nearly impossible.
