Did you test the old harddrive outside of the NAS? If that drive is working, it's probably the nas itself.

Hi there,
same problem here.

Ive been looking though these threads and as im not great on PC's my head is starting to hurt a little. I have installed Ubuntu and tried to access the HDD (now stripped from the iomega case) via a Cradle, my pc can see it under windows disk managment, but has no file system attached to it, it has 3 partitions.

I have directly connected it to my pc via a sata cable, same story, visable under disk management only with no drive number allocated. just wondering if anyone has any bright ideas that a lay man might undert=stand.

Sorry if this has been coverd to death. But i would love to get this data back.

I've lost all confidence in network drives as a back up media now.....

If you've used it as a backup, just wipe and reformat then backup the data again to it.

Where people make the mistake is to store everything on the NAS - then when the HD fails they lose their data.

I'm not using my NAS as a backup I'm using it to actually store my files, but then I have a USB drive plugged in to the NAS to backup the important files

Hi, thanks for the interesting thread.
I have the same problem as mhiles. I bought a "better" WD 2TB NAS SATA3 drive to replace my "dead" Seagate Barracuda 1TB. I followed wiki directions with no errors. I get solid white and flashing blue, then both lights go off, a few minutes later blue flashes again, then goes off, and ... But the drive does not obtain an IP address and therefore it cannot be seen on the network.

Is it possible that my new (better) drive is not compatible with my MHNDHD nas box?

Thanks for all your valuable help!

My personal history recovering Iomegas MHNDHD :

Just Yesterday i sucessfully restored two identical Iomega´s "Home Media Network Hard Drive"
This tutorial is awesome, because i sucessfully restores with different hdd sizes, from 160GB to 2000Gb !
They are now working happy with 2TB Hard Drives !!!
